Unfortunately, at some point in the weekend my mobile telephone and I parted company on mutually incovenient terms. Grr. If anyone out there just upgraded and has an old handset they don't need, I'd be happy to take it off your hands..
update Turns out my brother had an old handset which Dad is going to send me, so it's all ok..
