Excellent article on the state of the Italian Euro 2004 campaign in the Grauniad today:
..the Italians are in the ironic position of worrying about somebody else fixing a game.
Cynical, sarcastic journalism is one thing you just don't get here. You do get something equally entertaining though. For example, in La Gazzetta on Saturday there was an article about Wayne Rooney, with the headline 'Go Rooney! You are the Anti-Beckham.' It described him thus:
Rooney is like an ice cream in summer, a cold beer in the desert, fish and chips wrapped in newspaper on a humid autumn evening...
I bet no British newspapers have described him like that...
